First there was the Vivo Nex with its pop out front camera. Then there was the Oppo Find X, with its sliding mechanism that allowed the front and rear cameras to hide inside the phone when theyre not in use.
This week Huawei gave us a brief look at the upcoming Honor Magic 2 with sliding cameras. And now it appears Xiaomi and Lenovo are following the suit, with their own bezel less phones housing sliding cameras.
Sliding cameras offers more space for the screen thus increasing Screen to body ratio. But there are some genuine concerns over the sliding mechanism because it has a motor it can degrade with daily use and time.
The sliding mechanism has limited life as the Oppo Find X is rated for 300,000 up down movements and it will not work after that. Nex S another phone with sliding camera technology is rated for only 50,000 slides lifespan. Risk of accidentally breaking the unit is also there.
But now it seems to becoming a trend but not as big as smartphones with notches at the moment, but we can assume that in time it will be officially a thing.
