OnePlus CEO and Co founder Pete Lau has confirmed new details about the OnePlus 7. At the Third Qualcomm Snapdragon summit he said that OnePlus will be the first to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 in 2019.
He said, "OnePlus only makes flagship smartphones, and we believe that the Snapdragon 855 is the best and only choice. We are thrilled by its powerful performance and 5G capabilities. OnePlus will continue to bring its users the best technology and the best user experience possible.
OnePlus is currently focusing on the sub 6 spectrum in the 5G network, which although provides slower 5G speeds, but also offers a wider coverage area. Samsung also promised a 5G phone coming to AT&T and Verizon sometime next year.
One thing that's confirmed is that 5G technology is to coming to our pockets in 2019, but the question remains if the average consumer really will get attracted to the expectedly high price technology. First generation 5G products are unlikely to be picked purchased by the average consumer as of now.
UK's largest carrier EE also recently announced its 5G plans and listing of sixteen cities lined up for the 2019 launch. The carrier tells that the network will also partner with OnePlus for a phone built with the Snapdragon 855 to use the new technology.
