Some of Samsung’s new anticipated folding phones priced at almost $2,000 (approx Rs. 280,000 in Pakistan) appears to be breaking just in a couple of days of use, according to several reporters who received the phones for review.
People who received the phones to review before the public launch said the Galaxy Fold screen started flickering and turning black before completely fading out. Two reviewers said they removed a thin apparently protective layer from the screens that they thought was supposed to come off but it caused half of the display to completely black out.
The South Korean technology giant said on Thursday that it had received a few reports of damage to the main display on the samples of the Galaxy Fold provided to reviewers. “We will thoroughly inspect these units in person to determine the cause of the matter” Samsung said.
The foldable Galaxy smartphone was announced on February 20th. In anticipation of the Fold’s launch, Google also announced in November that Android for Samsung devices, would be customized to support foldable, multi-display devices.
The Galaxy Fold is a 4.6 inch smartphone that opens up into a 7.3 inch tablet. Samsung promises the screen can withstand being opened and closed 200,000 times, or 100 times a day for five years. The Galaxy Fold will go on sale April 26.
