Samsung Galaxy S11 Design Patent Reveals A Phenomenal Sliding Expandable Display

Samsung has changed its design of the S series lineup in its latest Galaxy S10 series after the Galaxy S6 edge. Infinity O display, Triple rear camera setup and In display fingerprint scanner were few of the first ever features, introduced in the Galaxy S10 flagship by the Korean Giant. But these all features seems to be dwarfed after seeing the patents Samsung has filed for the design of its 2020 flagship.

The patents filed by Samsung for its flagship Galaxy smartphone are shared by a Dutch technology blog. The design patents shows off a phone with expandable display that slides from the side. However, the working behind and process of the sliding secondary display has not been revealed so it is not clear how Samsung is going to achieve the feast. The device seen in the patents is about the same size of Galaxy S10. And the front camera can be seen housed at the center on top of the primary display.

After failing in the Galaxy Fold, Samsung seems to develop new methods to make a device with seamless expandable display experience. The patent was approved by the Korean Intellectual Property in May 2019. Currently we only have the design information of the device, while it is still unclear how the expandable display works. It is safe to assume that there would be a rail mechanism in order to slide out and slide in the secondary display from the side of the smartphone.
