Currently the standard version of Samsung's 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX is used in the latest Mi Note 10 and Mi MIX Alpha by Xiaomi. The new custom sensor will be far better then the current HMX sensor, it will produce better image quality and will also be capable of recording super high resolution videos.
The 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX works by combining four pixels into one, resulting in a 27MP image, the custom IMX sensor may also work in the same way. Only time will tell if the rumors are correct, Samsung usually launches its S series smartphones in February or March.
