Now, Chinese technology giant has signed a partnership with TomTom that will provide maps, navigation, and traffic data to Huawei apps.
TomTom is a technology company based in the Netherlands, known for providing mapping and navigation systems for cars. The company will develop an App for Huawei devices that will provide live traffic information, route, navigation and basically all the features that Google Maps previously used to provide in Huawei Smartphones. In August, it was reported that Huawei is developing its own App called Map Kit as an alternative to Google Maps but now it seems that the company has decided to take the expert onboard.
Huawei new smartphones are still coming with the latest version of Android because it is an Open source Operating System, but the Chinese tech giants lacks access to Google Services which include Google's Apps such as PlayStore, Youtube, Gmail, Google Maps etc. The company has already developed a complete alternative to the Android OS which it calls HarmonyOS and may switch to it completely in the near future.
Huawei claims that HarmonyOS is better and faster than Android and it is able to work across various platforms such as Smartphones, TVs, smartwatches, laptops, Smart Home Devices and more. Notably, despite the challenges faced by the Chinese tech in the previous year due to the US Trade Ban, it surpassed the expectations of Market insiders with a good outcome in Smartphone and Smart Accessories segment.
