Multiple reports are suggesting that iOS 12 may have a bug, causing periodic and random issues with devices not charging when plugged in to a power source, or placed on a wireless charging pad without user interaction as soon as the user taps the screen or start using the device, charging automatically resumes.
The main problem is occurring with iPhone XS and XS Max. While some iPad users have also complained about the issue. When plugging in the Lightning cable to charge with the device screen off, some devices dont charge. Charging only resumes when screens are tapped to wake.
At Apple's official discussion board, there are about 108 users commenting on this problem with their iPhone XS or iOS 12 device. The fault occurs when the user connects a Lightning cable to the charge port using a common wall charger, or place the device on a Qi charging pad.

One possibility is that the bug is related to the restrictions Apple has placed around USB access to the iPhone with iOS 12. Which is designed to make it difficult to extract data from the device when the screen is locked, but it might have interfered with the charging too.
We'll have to wait and see what the Apple engineers say when they take a look at the issue. Are you having any Lightning port charging issues with your device running on iOS 12 when the display is off? Let us know in comments.
