Forget about dual or triple lens camera setups that are incorporated in the flagship smartphones of current times. Light, maker of a 16 lens camera that hit the market last year, now has plans to incorporate its technology into a smartphone.
Light intends to take on the competition with a smartphone featuring a seemingly wild nine lenses.
At the end of 2015, Light presented a very unusual camera with an uncomplicated name Light L16. The main feature of the model was the availability of just 16 lenses. Using Light L16, you could take pictures with a resolution of up to 52 megapixels.
The Silicon Valley-based company recently showed a bunch of concept and working prototype handsets. One of the prototype models has nine lenses with five of them having 28mm focal length and the remaining four having a focal length of 56mm. The company claims that the multi lens solution can capture 64 megapixel shots along with improved low light and depth effects. Its L16 camera also lets you adjust the focal plane and depth of field after the image has been snapped.
Announcement of the multi camera smartphone is scheduled for the second half of this year. Given that the cost of Light L16 camera is whopping $1950 (more than Rs 2 lac in Pakistan), its not hard to imagine how much the smartphone will cost.
