Alongside Mi 10 Youth Edition, Xiaomi has also announced the new version of MIUI. The latest version currently running in the Xiaomi Smartphones is MIUI 11, the announcement of MIUI 12 is nothing less than a surprise for Xiaomi users. The features of MIUI 12 have also been revealed by the Chinese technology giant. The new MIUI 12 overlay comes with a new UI, number of new animations, and privacy improvements. The MIUI 12 will begin rolling out to the first batch of devices from June this year.
A bunch of new and impressive Live Wallpapers have been added by Xiaomi in its upcoming MIUI 12. The Always On Feature now also comes with a bunch of cool features. Some new privacy features called Flare, Barbed Wire, and Mask System will also arrive with MIUI 12. In terms of UI, Xiaomi has opted for a simpler and flatter interface this time with a bright white background that highlights the text better, along with wider spacing between text. A bunch of added graphics and visuals beautifully compliments the text.
Xiaomi has worked extensively on System animations and has revamped all the transitions including screen rotation, app launch and close and rearranging icons on the Home Screen as well. Android 10 like navigation gestures has also been included in MIUI 12. A bunch of Live Wallpapers featuring Earth and Mars have been included in this new overlay. These wallpapers are unique as they show you an image of Mars from afar, and then zoom in to show you a close up of the red terrain and plateau regions on the planet.
Similarly, the Earth live wallpaper also zooms in to show you an aerial view of different places on the planet. Xiaomi has used Mars exploration data to make high-precision 3D Martian land-forms for these wallpapers. When in Dark Mode, the planet also enters the night, and the visuals represent how the planet looks like when it’s dark. When you open a folder, the wallpaper zooms in, and zooms out when you close it. The Always On display features are also inspired from Earth and Mars.
Xiaomi has worked a lot on privacy and claims that MIUI 12 provides the best Android Privacy Protection. A new feature called Flare keeps a tab on all the permissions given to different apps, and alerts when these apps are using camera or GPS. Similarly, a new Barbed Wire feature enables the user to grant permission to apps for a specified amount of time. A new Mask System feature prevents apps from accessing sensitive information like IMEI, calendar, call logs, and more.
