BBK Electronics, a Chinese tech giant, owns both the OPPO and OnePlus brands. It has been reported that the brands are working together to an extent for almost a year. But now they have made the relationship public and announced an official merger. Pete Lau, co-founder, and CEO of the company stated in a blog post that their previous partnership had yielded excellent results, leading to the merger. As a result of the shift, OnePlus will have more options to collaborate and develop better products for consumers, enhancing the user experience.
Now when OnePlus will work under OPPO’s umbrella, people are skeptical of the future of OxygenOS, because OPPO smartphones run the company’s ColorOS. Well, there is an official word about that as well, OxygenOS is not going anywhere, and the brand will have its products and launch events like before. OnePlus smartphones will likely keep using OPPO-designed and developed Tech such as cameras and hardware equipment. The merger will make some back-end processes smoother, resulting in frequent and better releases from the brand.
OnePlus is aimed at growing its product portfolio, providing the consumers a varied range to choose from. By doing so, the company expects to get a chunk of new niches in the market. Oppo has a larger range of smartphones spanning from low-cost to high-end. While the officials did not reveal further goals or the nature of the association, but they are optimistic about the future of both brands. Sharing resources and talent with OPPO will help OnePlus not just scale its business, but also cut the cost of its goods. In related news, the brand recently launched its first smartwatch called OnePlus Watch.
