Pakistan’s First Electric Car Prototype Unveiled on 75th Independence Day

On Sunday, the first locally-produced electric car was unveiled in Karachi, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the DICE Foundation, local universities, and the private sector.

DICE Foundation is a non-profit organization based in the United States that is run by expatriate Pakistanis from the United States, the European Union, and other parts of the world, with assistance from local academia and industry.

Pakistan’s first electric car prototype, dubbed NUR-E 75 comes with a battery capacity of 35kWh. After being charged, the vehicle will have enough power to run for 210km. Its battery pack was created at the NED University of Engineering and Technology and includes advanced features.

Sir Syed University of Engineering is developing chargers for these vehicles. Work is also underway to develop faster chargers in order to reduce charging time. Additionally, all car components are developed in Pakistan. The design was created by the National College of Arts (NCA).

Design

From the front, the NUR-E 75’s design resembles a cross between the Honda-E and the N-One. Round headlights and a hatchback design from the 2000s give it a retro-modern appearance.

Pricing and Availability

There is no word from the officials regarding the car’s pricing. However, bookings for the NUR-E 75 “Made in Pakistan” will open in late 2024.
