As we predicted earlier, 2019 is going to be the year of foldable smartphones and 5G technology. More and more companies are coming up with their own version of foldable smartphones. We have already seen Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, and others teasing their foldable smartphones, even though some of them are still in development stages.
Now, Chinese smartphone manufacturer ZTE has filed a new patent, showing a foldable smartphone with clamshell design that folds vertically into a more compact form. The concept looks somewhat similar to the Motorola Razr foldable smartphone design. The ZTE foldable smartphone folds over itself and leaves an exposed portion of the display.
Talking about the design, ZTE's patent does not show a selfie camera. There is no cutout design for the front facing camera either. On the right hand side, there are two physical buttons. At the back, there is a dual camera setup and a hole for an LED flash. At the bottom, there are circular holes for speakers and/or the microphone along with a charging port.
The design of ZTE foldable device has a striking similarity to the Game Boy Advance. No official specs or launch date of ZTE foldable smartphone has been announced yet. But we can expect to get it announced later this year. The phone is likely to compete with the Motorola Razr foldable phone.
