Leaks about an upcoming foldable Galaxy phone by Samsung have been popped up for quite sometime, but it looks like the company is finally ready to release the device this year.
During an interview on CNBC, Samsungs Mobile Division Head DJ Koh has confirmed its time to deliver a Galaxy smartphone with a folding display, he said that the Galaxy X will probably be revealed at Samsung's Developer Conference in November this year. Which is a lot sooner than anyone expected.
Previously Samsung has confirmed that it was working on a device with a foldable screen, codenamed the Samsung Galaxy X but this is the first time we've got a clear launch hint, and the information is from the head of Samsung's mobile division himself.
Samsung announced that it had created unbreakable glass that was stressed tested and ultimately backed up by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in the U.S.
The OLED screen includes a strong plastic panel on top, as opposed to glass, which is what makes it flexible. This sounds exactly the kind of screen a foldable phone would require.
A recent report claims that Samsungs foldable phone will feature a 7.3 inch OLED display on the inside with a 1.5 curvature. According to the report, the phone will have two displays, a foldable 7.3 inch OLED display when fully extended and a 4.6 inch flexible OLED display when the phone is folded up.
Unfortunately there's nothing too solid on the specs front yet. But we have two months until Samsung's Developer Conference, so stay tuned.
