TCL will start production of Flexible OLEDs from 4th quarter this year

TCL made a promise in February that it will introduce smartphones with foldable displays and now it is making the first step towards its development. The company has purchased LTPS equipment from Japan and South Korea for its new plant in Wuhan, China, where the company is expected to start producing the AMOLED panels from 4th quarter of 2019 from its division of display called Huaxing Optoelectronics.

The TCL management has officially said that it is entirely confident in Huaxing reaching a double digit growth annual sales and profits both. The LTPS LCD production for the first quarter of 2019 reached $27.2 million, which made it to the third in ranking among companies with only a single plant. The company also said it has reached an agreement with some major smartphone manufacturers to provide the flexible OLEDs.

TCL Group is aiming to hit with flexible OLED technology not only in the smartphone sector but the smart TV segment as well. Reports about an upcoming Huawei Smart TV emerged earlier have been backed by industry insiders, claiming that Huaxing will manufacture the flexible 65 inch panels, while the 55 inch model would be manufactured by another Chinese display manufacturer called BOE, that has been already working with Huawei in the production of Mate 20 Pro display screens.
