WhatsApp as a medium has become a rather important part of our day to day communication. More than a billion people use the instant messaging app for their everyday communication. An old hoax called WhatsApp Gold has made a comeback on the app that claims to be an official update of Whatsapp prone to any viruses.
A video is circulating on the app encouraging users to download of a fake update called WhatsApp Gold. Once you download the Whatsapp Gold update from the link it further downloads a lot of malware into your smartphone, thus putting all your personal data in danger of being theft.
The message containing the malware comes in the form of a forwarded video message. The first half of the message claims that a video will come out tomorrow called Martinelli, which will hack your phone the second half of the message tells about WhatsApp Gold which is prone to any viruses.
The WhatsApp Gold update claims to offer many features such as the ability to have video chats, send 100 pictures at once, and delete messages after you have sent them. Facebook owned WhatsApp had earlier said that it has nothing to do with WhatsApp Gold or WhatsApp Plus.
Any official update to WhatsApp will be available only through Google Play Store and Apples App Store. Any other source can potentially harm your device with malwares and may put your data on risk. Users must avoid such forwarded messages and should not forward them either.
