At the World 5G Conference, which is being held in China, CEO of Xiaomi 'Lei Jun' revealed during the Keynote that his company is in the last stages of building it's 5G smartphone manufacturing factory. The primary purpose of the factory is to produce flagship 5G smartphones. The work on the factory will be completed in December this year.
The new plant of Xiaomi is located in Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone. The factory will be equipped with large scale automated production lines that makes possible mass production with full efficiency. The factory will also have cloud services and 5G research facilities.
The plant will cover an area of 187,000 square meters and will produce 60 smartphones per minute, that means one smartphone each second. The production yield of Xiaomi's new factory is 60% faster than the current fastest production of smartphone making factories.
In the first phase of production, the plant will produce 1 million 5G smartphone units. The company plans to do flash sales more often and restock their devices in the markets in shorter intervals. Lei Jun said at the World 5G Conference that 5G will give a boost to the declining smartphone industry next year.
