Huawei P40 Series Expected to Feature 52MP Sony IMX700 Camera

Flagship phones are incomplete without top of the line camera sensors. The smartphone cameras are getting better with every launch, increased megapixel and high resolution cameras produce crisp images with intricate details. To keep up with the trend, smartphone makers are incorporating high megapixel count cameras in their smartphones. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and Xiaomi Mi 10 currently have the highest resolution sensor in the smartphone world which is Samsung's 108Mp ISOCELL Bright HM1.

Huawei P series is known for its high quality photography capabilities. Chinese smartphone giant is now gearing up to launch its P40 series flagship smartphones take on Samsung's latest Galaxy S20 series. According to the latest reports, the Huawei P40 series may come equipped with 52MP Sony IMX700 CMOS sensors. The IMX700 CMOS sensor supports an impressive 16-pixel binning technology to provide detailed images in the day time and less noise in low-light conditions.

Leaks suggest that the Sony IMX700 that may come in Huawei P40 series will have a large 1 / 1.33 sensor area that supports 16 pixel binning technology (4×4). Simply put, the largest unit of photosensitive pixel size can be combined with about 4.48 μm. For a comparison, the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s 108 MP sensor uses 9 pixel binning (3x3) to achieve a pixel size of up to 2.4 μm while Xiaomi’s 108 MP HMX sensor supports up to 1.6 μm.

According to reports, the 52MP Sony IMX700 sensor in Huawei P40 series will be combined with 40MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 10x optical variable periscope lens, and a 3D ToF depth sensor. The upcoming Huawei flagship is expected to offer 8K recording at 30fps. The P40 Pro will come with a dual-lens punch hole selfie camera. The Huawei P40 series is expected to see the light of the day in March this year.
