Microsoft obtains license from the US Government to continue selling software to Chinese tech giant Huawei

The US government still stands on the decision of banning the American companies to continue doing business with Huawei. There has been an extension of the ban but it has not been lifted completely, the ban will be applicable after the current extension expires. But the US Commerce Department has granted a license as a permission to Microsoft to export mass market software to the Chinese Tech giant.

It is not clear which software falls under the category of mass market but Windows and Microsoft Office are for sure necessary softwares for any laptop or computer. Huawei makes laptop and personal computers under its Matebook umbrella, the latest offering Matebook X Pro will definitely benefit from the license. The US Commerce Department has shown a little bit of flexibility by offering temporary licenses to keep the trade wheel spinning.

Google has not received any such license as of now, keeping in mind that Huawei is one of the largest Android smartphone manufacturers in the World with a large chunk of market share, so it is of grave importance that the company continue selling software to the Chinese technology giant otherwise the smartphone business of Huawei will get a huge dent.

Without the license or approval from the US Government Google will not be able to provide Android Applications to Huawei, and the company will have to ship their smartphones without Google Apps. The US government suspects that the Chinese technology giant aids its government in spying, though it has not succeeded in providing any evidence to the claim yet. Banning the US companies from doing business with Huawei on mere speculations is something the Government has received backlash for.
