It's been a few days since OPPO has announced the latest version of ColorOS. Now reports suggest that the Chinese smartphone maker is working on its proprietary chipset for the phones it produces. OPPO has been using both Qualcomm and MediaTek chipsets in smartphones but now following the footsteps of Samsung and Huawei, the company is developing its own processor.
An application has been filed by Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunication to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) which describes several trademarks such as: Chips [integrated circuits]; Semiconductor chips; Computer chips; Multiprocessor chips; Electronic chips for the manufacture of integrated circuits; Biochips; Smartphones; Cell phones; Screens.
The company itself has not officially announced the development, but it has recently hired a bunch of former engineers from smartphone chip making companies, Mediatek and Spreadtrum. It is not clear when the Chinese smartphone maker will launch its own processor but we can expect to see OPPO M1 in OPPO and Realme smartphones next year.
OPPO has also revealed the latest version of it's ColorOS earlier this week. The Android skin is called ColorOS 7 which is based on Android 10. It comes with a new UI with lighter color tones and redesigned icons. The Global launch of ColorOS 7 is going to happen from 26 of November in the Reno series while the Realme smartphones will get the updates from February 2020.
