Apple develops a new type of display for iPhone 11 that will work under water

The current iPhones are water resistant but it's not easy to use when rain is dripping down on the display and using them underwater is almost impossible. Apple has came up with a solution that it's going to incorporate in next iPhones. Reports suggests that Apple is going to add underwater mode in the iPhone 11.

Every iPhone since the iPhone 7 has been water resistant, with an IP67 rating, meaning it can survive being dipped in up to 1 metre of water for up to 30 minutes. While the latest iPhone XS has an improved IP68 rating, which means it can survive being submerged in up to 2 metres of water.

The current iPhones can handle being submerged under water but they don't actually work underwater, so you can't take photos while swimming or snorkeling. This is because water conducts electricity, so smartphones can't sense the difference between the water touching the screen and the touch from our fingertips.

Various sources claims the next iPhone lineup will be able to detect where your fingers are tapping even when the display is entirely submerged in water. Apple has a patent for the technology and is experimenting with devices in the prototype stage. The display will be ready for the next iPhone 11 family which is expected to debut in September this year.
