Earthquake Prediction Raises Concerns in Pakistan, but Experts Urge Caution

A group called the Solar System Geometry Survey (SSGEOS), which is from the Netherlands and is known for predicting earthquakes, has made a prediction about a big earthquake in Pakistan.

They say this earthquake might happen in the next 48 hours. The SSGEOS looks at changes in electric charge in the air near the sea, and they think this can give them clues about where big earthquakes might happen in about 1 to 9 days.

They say that the places they mark as maybe having an earthquake are just guesses, but they can still give us some useful information about where earthquakes might happen.

Recently, a scientist from the Netherlands who works with the SSGEOS said that there's been a big increase in electric activity along the Chaman fault lines in Pakistan. This has made people worried that a strong earthquake might happen in the next 48 hours.

This scientist has been right about earthquakes in the past, like the one in Turkey earlier this year that killed a lot of people.

In the past, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has not agreed with these kinds of predictions. They say there's no good scientific way to predict earthquakes.

Pakistan is in a place where earthquakes often happen because two big pieces of the Earth's crust are moving together. This makes Pakistan vulnerable to earthquakes.

What experts say: People who study earthquakes all over the world say that it's really hard to predict exactly when earthquakes will happen. While they can guess that earthquakes might happen in some places because of a lot of seismic activity, it's still really tough to say exactly where and when.

So, even though the SSGEOS has made this prediction, experts say we should be careful and not panic.

The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) in Pakistan has said that the Dutch scientist's prediction might not be right. They say that while there is a fault line called Chaman in Pakistan, it's impossible to know for sure when the next earthquake will happen.

Meteorological experts also say that we shouldn't get too worried about rumors on social media. They explain that changes in the Earth's plates are hard to predict, and it's tough to be sure when and where an earthquake will happen.
