FedEx Sues U.S. Government Over Export Rules After Huawei Ban

World's leading goods delivery company, FedEx has filed a suit against U.S. Commerce Department for enforcing export ban and requiring extra screening. FedEx says that it is almost impossible for the company to cooperate with them in the screening of sealed packages for controlled tech. The international courier giant filed the complaint at a DC Court.

FedEx says that it is a transportation company not a law enforcement agency that gives it right to screen sealed packages containing tech items. FedEx argued that either it has to face legal penalties or refuse to ship any package because it cannot screen the sealed packages. FedEx transports tech components from U.S. manufacturers to Chinese tech giant Huawei.

FedEx wants the court to declare the export control law unconstitutional, at least for the common carriers that transport everyday goods like FedEx. While FedEx biggest rival UPS does not seem to agree with the company. They say that they don't have any particular issues for Huawei or any other customers.

The Department of Commerce fined FedEx once for shipping packages to a banned recipient between 2011 and 2012. As far as checking the contents of the parcel, FedEx says most packages are sealed when customers drop them, making it impossible for the company to know the contents.
