Huawei is not giving up after the U.S. ban and trying its best to look for alternatives in order to keep floating in the current situation. All U.S. companies including Google, Intel, Qualcomm and SD Association have cut ties with the Chinese Technology Giant. Now it seems like the smartphone maker is on its own.
Huawei has reportedly shipped around one million smartphones running its custom HongMeng OS to testers in China and other countries. The company started developing the OS as a backup for Android in 2012. HongMeng OS is 100% compatible with Android system and all the Android Apps. Moreover, It has some enhanced security features such as personal data protection.
HongMeng OS is as very much like Android and can be used in everything from smartphones to smartwatches to smart TVs to transportation vehicles. HongMeng OS is based on the Linux kernel, which is open source and not beholden to any licensing laws.
Huawei executives stated that HongMeng OS will launch this fall and will be used across mobile devices, tablets, TVs, IoT, and other device platforms. The HongMeng name sounds unusual and we expect that the OS gets a proper marketing moniker by Huawei to sound more international.
