Huawei likely to Surpass Samsung as the World's largest Smartphone maker in 2nd Quarter of 2020

Global Smartphone sales have been hit badly this year due to the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic, and Samsung seems to be the most affected Smartphone manufacturer due to the economic hit caused by the Covid-19. Estimates suggest that Samsung's device sales will drop further in the 2nd quarter of this year.

Huawei on the other hand, has already replaced Samsung as the largest Smartphone maker from the months April to May and now it seems like it will be crowned as the largest Smartphone maker in the number of shipments for the 2nd Quarter of this 2020. It was around four years ago that Huawei’s consumer boss, Richard Yu, set the company the target of taking the number one spot within five years.

Huawei was the world’s number one smartphone maker in April with a 19% market share and Samsung was just behind it standing on 17%. The gap lessened for the month of May, in which Huawei had a market share of 19.7% while Samsung was slightly behind it with a market share of 19.6%. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer shipped 81.97 million devices by the end of May.

The Chinese market recovered from Coronavirus earlier than the rest of the world and Huawei is doing exceptionally well in its country of origin while Samsung's majority sale relies upon India, USA, Latin America and Europe where the Pandemic was wreaking havoc in these recent months.

The situation, however, is not supposed to remain the same throughout the year and Samsung will eventually take its place back when the Pandemic is over and the markets start to recover because Huawei is not allowed to operate in the USA and it lacks Google Play Services. Instead of Google apps and services, it is offering its own Huawei Mobile Services with AppGallery.
