Huawei will unveil its folding 5G smartphone at MWC 2019

China's Huawei Technologies is currently stockpiling components and seeking to expand its supplier network to ensure its largest ever smartphone launch goes smoothly at the MWC 2019.

The company is expected to unveil its new offerings including a foldable, 5G smartphone at Mobile World Congress, the biggest mobile networking industry event in the world, which will kick off from Monday in Barcelona.

Foldables and 5G will likely be major attractions at the MWC as Chinese companies like Huawei, ZTE, Xiaomi and Oppo will showcase their latest developments in these areas.

Huawei is world's third smartphone maker by shipments. It is going to unveil the first experimental smartphone with both 5G capability and a foldable organic light emitting diode screen that will be a direct competitor to the Samsungs Galaxy Fold.

2019 could be a lucky year for Huawei, as many market analysts predicts that it will overtake Apple as the second biggest smartphone maker for the first time. Huawei also plans to demonstrate its latest 5G networking solutions at the MWC 2019.

Like Huawei, ZTE also plans to unveil a 5G smartphone in Barcelona. The 5G wireless communication promises faster data transfers with low latency, that will pave way for autonomous driving, mobile live streaming, remote surgery and other innovations.
