Samsung Patents a Unique Wrap around Display Design

Samsung Galaxy Fold is now far from being the success the company may have expected. The review units faced several issues with the phone’s foldable screen and Samsung had no choice except to delay the Galaxy Fold official launch.

A blog found a patent that was first filed in 2016 but awarded to Samsung just a few days ago. The device can be seen featuring up to three usable screens, including a main one on the front, a secondary one on the back, and one on the side for notifications.

The purpose of a multi screen phone such as the one seen in the patents is to allow Samsung to remove the selfie camera from the front of the phone, and increase the size of the main display.

The main difference between Samsung’s concept and those phones is that Samsung is also turning the top edge of the phone into a screen. A single camera module would sit on the back, and it would work both for regular pictures and selfies.

With display on both sides of the phone, two or more apps could be open at once too, with apps occupying both sides of the smartphone for quick access. A single app could be used to show different information or functions on either side for an efficient multi-tasking mode.

Samsung’s smartphone patent does not guarantee that Samsung will manufacture phones that look like the patents. Tech companies register countless patents every year and not all of the innovative ideas turn into actual commercial products.
