Apple has officially unveiled its iOS 13 at the mobile OS segment of WWDC this week. Apple many announcements during its big keynote presentation at WWDC, and it gave the first official glimpse at the updated software that will power it's devices this year. Last year’s iOS 12 update was more about fixing bugs and smoothing the user experience but iOS 13 comes with many exciting new features for the iPhone and iPad users.
Some of the most amazing new features that iOS 13 will bring along with it are:
Speed: iOS 13 brings improvement in speed. Face ID unlocks are 30% faster and app launch speeds are twice as fast on the iPhone due to the 60% smaller app sizes.
Dark Mode: Now that most of the new iPhones comes equipped with OLED displays, UI elements that are heavy on true black extends the battery life. Dark Mode flips the color scheme so that the background is black and text is light. Dark Mode is available on the main iOS UI and in each individual Apple app too.
Swipe typing:
iOS keyboard now supports swipe typing, which is something that people have been looking for since a long time. Swiping on the Apple keyboard works pretty much like it does in other third party keyboards.
Reminders: The Reminders app has been redesigned from scratch. A new quick type bar makes it easier to create notes. Smart Lists is also a big improvement over standard lists.
Maps: Apple has rebuilt all of its maps applications and added more details. Apple drove over 4 million miles around the United States to add the new detail to its maps. A new favorites section makes navigating to frequently visited placed much easier, and collections allow users to compile a bunch of nearby locations into a folder. There’s also a new “Look Around” feature that is like Google’s Street View in Google Maps. You can also finally share an ETA with anyone with just a single tap.
Sign in with Apple: Apple is introducing a new “Sign in with Apple” feature in the latest IOS 13 that allows users to sign into third party services. Apple claims that there is no tracking at all with Sign in with Apple. If the services want to access your name and email, you can either allow them to have access or you can create a fake email address that will forward to your real email to keep your privacy guarded. Sign in with Apple will be available on all Apple platforms as well as on the web.
HomeKit: HomeKit is getting a new upgrade that merges into the security cameras with HomeKit Secure Video, that can analyze the security camera video for face recognition features. This new feature also can encrypt video clips and store them to iCloud.
Messages: Messages is one of the most used applications on iOS, the app now gets a big update in iOS 13. You can now set your name and picture, avatar or Memoji and they will be sent to your contacts when you message them. That means, the messages sent to new contacts will not appear under an unknown phone number. Moreover, there are bundles of new style features available so you can further customize your Memoji. Memoji Stickers creates a custom sticker pack that can be used in Messages, Mail, and elsewhere.
Camera: The Camera app in iOS 13 gives users a variety of new features including portrait lighting effects available in Portrait Mode photos. The Photos app has a new photo editor UI with controls that are easier to use. Videos can also be edited and rotated by using the same options.
Photos: The Photos app is getting many big updates along with the new editor features. Photos will be intelligently organized into a diary of different categories and the app will automatically remove duplicate photos. A new Days tab in the Photos app drills down to show you photos captured on a particular date, while the videos and Live Photos will preview automatically as you scroll. The Months tab is similar, it’s organized by month rather than day. The Years tab is similar but it’s dynamic, so the previews will be changed based on the time, day, and situation.
New AirPods features: AirPods integration in iOS 13 gets some notable updates too, Siri automatically read your messages as soon as they arrive when you are using AirPods. This feature works with Apple’s Messages app and third party apps where it is enabled. A new Audio Sharing feature lets you share your Bluetooth connection with other iPhones by lightly tapping the two phones together. HomePod also gets a bunch of new features in iOS 13, such as Handoff support and new Siri features.
CarPlay enhancements: CarPlay is also getting a major update in iOS 13. The new CarPlay Dashboard is a widget screen that can be configured according to your preferences. Siri now works with third-party apps.
Natural Siri voice: Apple also used neural text to speech to make Siri sound very much natural in iOS 13, which some users will appreciate.
New spam filter: This new iOS 13 feature lets you send ALL unknown calls to voicemail automatically.
