2020 seems to be the year of full screen displays, companies are eliminating notches to increase screen to body ratios and are working on pop up camera modules and punch hole displays to achieve the feast. Smartphone manufacturers will continue to experiment and play around new design ideas until a totally hidden under display selfie camera is developed and becomes available in all the smartphones.
Recently, OPPO patented three different display designs that sports four punch hole cameras in different settings. The first design shows four punch hole cameras placed on the four sides of the display, much like Amazon Fire phone that sported four cameras on front. The two other patented designs shows two sets of dual cameras, on both sides of the top of display, one has larger cutouts placed inside pill shaped modules and other have smaller sets of dual cutouts.
The back of the smartphone can also be seen in one diagram that appears to feature a quad rear camera setup. While we are not certain what Vivo is going to do by placing four cameras on front, or all the four cutouts will sport camera or they are meant to be for something else apart from varying lenses. There is no information regarding when these devices will make it to the market and what are Vivo's ambitions about the quad punch hole displays.
