Xiaomi has patented several designs of foldable smartphone concepts. The latest design patented seems to be of Xiaomi's upcoming Mi Mix Fold, which is going to be the first foldable smartphone by Xiaomi. The design looks a lot like Huawei Mate X which is surrounded by screen, has a large tablet sized display that folds into a smartphone. The Mi Mix Fold design shows that the display will also run on the edges when folded.
The patented images shows that Xiaomi upcoming foldable smartphone will feature a flexible screen with a hinge at the inner side, so the users will be able to fold the device outwards or horizontally. The smartphone will also sport curved display with a sidebar and houses dual camera setup with LED flash. It isn't clear whether the whole section will only contain cameras as seen in renders or the camera will be hidden under the display so it will be a complete screen without any hinges or notches.
According to the renders of Xiaomi foldable smartphone, the device contains a dual camera setup that will act as both main camera and front camera for selfies and video calling, the user has to unfold the device to use it as main camera and unfold it to use the rear screen panel as the viewfinder. By looking at the patented design one can judge that it will run a custom skin of MIUI over Android customized to support foldable display.
In terms of specifications, the Mi Mix Fold is expected to be a premium flagship device and reports suggest that it will be powered by Snapdragon 865 SoC which is an upgrade to Xiaomi's current most premium flagship device Mi Mix Alpha that is powered by the Snapdragon 855 SoC. We still have to wait a bit to know what Xiaomi is exactly working on and what the upcoming device will bring.
