There was a time when Microsoft held the rights to manufacture Nokia smartphones, the company released numerous devices under Nokia branding that run its Mobile Windows. The dominance of Android and iOS was a big challenge which Microsoft Windows couldn't compete with in the smartphone segment. After getting Nokia back, HMD global made a shift from Windows mobile Operating System and started marketing Android smartphones.
We have not seen a significant Windows smartphone after October 2015, in which Nokia launched Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 550. Now a company named Emperion is trying to revive the Windows Smartphones. The company has teased a Windows 10 Smartphone that runs on ARM processor. The OS is not a mobile version but a full fledge Windows 10 running on ARM. Emperion Nebula will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 processor.
The Emperion Nebulus smartphone will offer the same features we use on x86 and x64 Windows 10 on computer and laptop. Since Windows does not offer calling feature right away so we can expect that Emperion Nebulus will have a proprietary UI on top of Windows 10 so the features that are essential for smartphone users and doesn't come in Windows 10 can be added. Reports suggests that the smartphone can also run Android Applications out out of the box
The Emperion Nebulus can be switched to desktop mode via Type-C connector or Wireless connection. Most of the specifications of the device are unknown as of now, while the renders posted online shows an outdated design with plastic body, significant chin and forehead on front that houses front camera and a couple of sensors and a Dual Camera Setup at the back. It will be interesting to see how the device performs in today's Android dominant market.
