Alibaba is setting up its own Artificial Intelligence chip for self driving cars

Chinas tech entrepreneurship Titan, Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba group has been open about the importance of lowering its dependence on US technology in the current political scenario. It appears Jack Ma, is now putting his money where his heart is, as his brainchild company unveils ambitious new goals for its research and development plan.

It seems like Alibaba is expanding up its business portfolio into leading edge technologies, developing superfast quantum computers and aiming to built its first artificial intelligence chips because AI is the future.

Speaking at an event in Hangzhou, China, Jack Ma announced that the company would setup a dedicated chip subsidiary to build Smart AI chips designed for self driving vehicles, smart cities, and logistics.

Alibaba has acquired C Sky Microsystems, a Chinese microchip maker in April this year. On which Jack Ma, reportedly said that China needs to control the core technology like chips so it won't have to rely on US imports.

Ma is hoping to introduce its first artificial intelligence chip, called Ali NPU, as soon as next year, for possible applications ranging from autonomous driving to smart cities.
