A research and statistical analysis firm named Counterpoint Research has published a report that reveals the top 10 highest selling smartphones around the globe last year. As for the international markets the top 10 best selling smartphones in 2018 were:

- Apple iPhone 8
- Apple iPhone 8 Plus
- Apple iPhone 7
- Xiaomi Redmi 5A
- Samsung Galaxy S9
- Apple iPhone XS Max
- Apple iPhone XR

The iPhone X which was Apple's tenth anniversary flagship model launched back in 2017 came up as the best selling smartphone in the world in 2018. The iPhone 8 came in at the second spot while the iPhone 8 Plus took the third spot.
The global best selling smartphones chart is clearly dominated by Apple with six phones while Samsung appears on the chart with three. The Redmi 5A claims its position as the top selling Android smartphone in the world in 2018 by beating Samsung's flagship Galaxy S9 by a considerable margin.
Some people may find it surprising that none of the Huawei or Honor smartphones made it to the Counterpoint best selling smartphones list while they are the top selling smartphones in China. The reason is that Huawei and Honor are banned in several Western countries including USA.
