Biometric unlocking is now considered necessary for the smartphones. The latest Whatsapp Beta has also introduced fingerprint unlocking for the users, it may also release the feature in the standard version for the convenience of users. The feature is available in a bunch of apps and users were anticipating the feature for Whatsapp too.
The latest Android Beta version 2.19.221 brings the feature which is disabled by default and can be enabled by users. The feature will increase the much needed privacy by securing the chats by biometric verification. Once you enable the fingerprint locking you can still see the notifications on lock screen if enabled.
To enable the fingerprint authentication users of Whatsapp beta 2.19.221 can enable the biometric lock by going to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Privacy > Fingerprint lock. The device needs a minimum requirement of having a fingerprint scanner to use the feature. The users will be able to use the Android quick reply to respond to the messages. Therefore the Fingerprint lock only applies when you want to open the app.
The WhatsApp Beta states that the Fingerprint Lock feature is fairly private and will not send user fingerprint data to WhatsApp, or its parent company Facebook. The feature runs on official Android APIs to manage the biometric authentication.
